Curriculum

Expectations are high at Kingsmead.  Students are expected to engage in all lessons, to aim high and to achieve.

Personal Academic targets are set for all students based on their prior attainment.  Academic Reviews are used to set individual targets and to discuss strategies for achieving them.

Teaching rooms are equiped with Smartboards for high quality display and lessons are designed to stimulate students through interactive teaching featuring a blend of groupwork and individual assignments.  Teaching is matched to the learning styles of groups and individuals.

Kingsmead Students are expected to assume increasing responsibility for their own learning.  All students carry a planner in which they record academic targets and homework.

Learning support is provided through teaching assistants based in most departments.  In-class support is provided where appropriate for students at the early stages of learning Engish.

Where students need additional help to overcome barriers to learning, the team of learning mentors and the In School Support Centre (ISSC) provide one to one support.

The Students of Marked Aptitude (SoMA) programme identifies students with high potential and, through tracking, progress, ensures that our most able students are challenged to achieve outstanding results.
