GCSE English Literature involves the study of books, plays and poems.  It develops the ability to think creatively and see situations from different perspectives as well as fostering an understanding of how language is used in a variety of ways by different writers to convey ideas.

What will I learn?

You will read and respond to a wide range of prose, poetry and drama written in English or translated from other languages. You will learn how to appreciate how authors achieve their effects and about the social, historical and cultural influences on literature.

What sort of homework will I be set?

You will be asked to research, do wider reading, write drafts and essays and prepare for exam practice questions.

What coursework will I need to do?

You will have to complete four assignments: two on poetry; one on prose; and one on drama.
