Kingsmead 6-3 Mill Hill County
As champions of Enfield, the Year 8 football team strode onto the field on the last Friday before the half term break intent reversing a recent dip in form. Two successive defeats had seen confidence suffer but what better way to get motivated than by playing the champions of Barnet, Mill Hill County School, in the prestigious Middlesex Cup?
It was no surprise that the team started nervously; especially with two regular starters missing. However, with Gelmis Gustaitis having a storming debut game at left back and the defence superbly marshalled by captain Adivul Alam, the team's attacking players took charge of the game and quickly took the lead.
Half time came and went and it was no surprise that Kingsmead comfortably won thanks to a hat-trick from Nicholas Brown, two goals from Joshua Onomah and a goal from Tarik Aciyan.
The resounding result for the Year 8 boys showed not only a return to form but also proved that against unfamiliar opposition in the biggest competition they have played in to date, they can raise their game.
The team have now progressed to the last 16 in a competition that originally had 52 competing teams, where they will play Enfield Grammar.
A huge thank-you to Mr Green who refereed the game.
Enfield Grammar 2-6 Kingsmead School
Kingsmead’s Year 8 team again showed their class and ability as they marched into the quarter-finals of the Middlesex County Cup by beating Enfield Grammar 6-2 on Thursday 19th November.
The scoreline would suggest a one-sided game but Kingsmead had to battle back to get on terms after two early goals from the home side left Kingsmead trailing.
Nicholas Brown halved the deficit with a header from a Korri Alger cross and it was Nicholas again who sent his team into the half-time break with the scores level with a scorching equaliser from 25 yards out.
The second half saw Kingsmead raise their game and they dominated the second half hour creating many chances. Wisley Balthazar had a point blank shot saved superbly by the goalkeeper while Nicholas Brown had another effort tipped on to the post.
Joshua Onomah using his skill and technique put Kingsmead in the lead for the first time in the match. Soon after Korri Alger scored direct from a corner to put Kingsmead in charge.
A great move involving substitute Mansur Rahman, Asha Cato-Tyson and Joshua Onomah saw Nicholas Brown break clear to complete his hat trick. Just before the final whistle Joshua Onomah scored his second and the side’s sixth.
The icing on the cake was a superb second half defensive performance which limited Grammar to few chances. The team now wait to discover who their opponents will be in the quarter finals.
