On the evening of March 3rd 2009, Kingsmead collected two of the three prizes allocated to the Youth sector at the Enfield Celebrating Sport Awards. The third award for the top disabled athlete was won by a student at West Lea School.
This is a highly prestigious award as candidates have to be nominated and therefore only the elite are in the running for the award. A shortlist is then made and those candidates are called to interview and give a presentation in front of a panel.
The first of two students representing Kingsmead was Katy Eagling, who won the Young Leader Award for her work in Gymnastics: both in school and for her work in other schools and in Enfield Gym Club.
The other student was former sixth former Reece Beckford who won the Sports Performer of the Year: his work is also in Gymnastics where he has gained international honours. Reece is currently training 28 hours a week in his bid for Olympic success in 2012.
Major congratulations to both of these students for these outstanding achievements which result from their dedication and commitment to sport.
