st Round
Kingsmead School 6-5 Harefield Academy
Kingsmead’s Year 9 football team are intent on making up for a Middlesex Cup semi-final exit last year and this season’s campaign got off to an impressive start with a battling win over Harefield Academy. To put the victory in context the academy has a unique relationship with Watford Football Club where academy players from the club attend the school. With this in mind, the Kingsmead team were well aware of the task that lay ahead of them but showing their class and ability they overcame difficult conditions to win by the odd goal in eleven.
There were stars all over the pitch with Adivul Alam expertly marshalling the defence. Damani Haule was again outstanding at right back. Ugur Yatmaz was disciplined and having been asked to fill several roles during the match was a credit to the team.
Joshua Onomah and Nicholas Brown each scored stunning hat tricks to give Kingsmead the win in a prestigious competition that this season has 53 entrants.
Kingsmead will now face local rivals St Ignatius for a place in the third round. The match has to be completed before 23rd October.
