Year 7 Football Team Are Borough Champions

On Friday 5th December, Mr Pieri took a squad of eight players to the Enfield Borough 5-a-side football championships which are run by Enfield Grammar School. With high hopes given the team’s unbeaten start to the 11-a-side league and cup campaign it was no real surprise that the boys picked up their first trophy of the season. The boys did brilliantly in coming through a tough group, needing to win their final game to progress to the semi-finals.

In the semi-final they came up against Southgate and were a penalty kick away from being eliminated were it not for a fantastic save from Tarik Aciyan in goal. The team’s confidence grew from that moment on and two quick goals saw the team qualify for the final against the hosts. Enfield Grammar had actually beaten Kingsmead in the group stage so the final was a chance to reverse that defeat. In a tense final the match went into extra-time. Slowly but surely Kingsmead showed their class and ability and it was Joshua Onomah who got the all-important first goal. With Grammar now desperate for the equaliser, Kingsmead bided their time, passed the ball accurately and with purpose. Nicholas Brown got the second goal with a clever touch beyond the goalkeeper to all but seal the win. Joshua added a third to give Kingsmead a resounding and deserving 3-0 win. After the match, captain Joshua Onomah was presented with the trophy and the team received their medals.

Well done to all of you!

The team will now go on to represent Enfield in the regional finals which are to be played at the David Beckham Academy in Greenwich early in the New Year.

Squad: Stefan Costi, Tarik Aciyan, Wisley Balthazar, Joshua Onomah, Adivul Alam, Nicholas Brown, Korri Alger and Callum Palmer.
