Recycling Tuesdays

Recycling Tuesdays was set up to encourage students to participate in the recycling process at school. It aims to increase the amount of waste that is recycled at the school through greater use of the recycling bins that are in place in all classrooms. The hope is that students get used to recycling as much as possible, and take this behaviour into their homes and the wider community helping to divert as much recyclable waste as possible away from landfill sites.

Every Tuesday during registration a student from each form empties their class recycling bins into the big bins located near the caretakers’ office, and a member of EPAK checks them off from a list of forms. In the first term that this took place 7NC won a prize for emptying their bin in all of the 14 weeks that were monitored, and 9OL won a prize draw for all the forms that participated.

So far the record number of forms emptying their recycling bins on one day is 43 out of 67, and 60 out of the 67 forms have emptied their bins at least once. The challenge is to do even better next year, and to get every form joining in with the recycling helping us to reduce our waste and increase the amount that we recycle.
