ICT in Year 9
Students in Year 9 will begin a GCSE course in ICT. The course title is OCR Nationals at Level 2 and they will study:
Unit 1 Skills for Business
OCR Level 2 Nationals in ICT have been developed to provide candidates with an introduction to the skills, knowledge and understanding required to prepare for work in the Information and Communication technology sector. They have also been designed to help candidates develop their personal skills in the areas of team working, career planning, communications and problem solving. They accredit candidates' abilities to carry out a range of tasks and have been designed to accredit candidates' achievements in a modern, practical way thats is relevant to the workplace.
Students who achieve well will be entered for certification in this course. All students will have the opportunity to progress further in Year 10 and beyond. The course will prepare students for GCSE and give them opportunities to extend their studies by taking GCSE ICT.
In summary, ICT skills in Business includes the following tasks:-

Demonstrate good working practices with files, directories/folders and subdirectories/subfolders.

Using appropriate software, select and use tools and facilities to download files/information and to send and receive email messages.

Produce a business presentation using presentation software.

Select and use tools and facilities in word processing or DTP software to produce a variety of business documents.

Create and use a simple business spreadsheet.

Select and use tools and facilities in database software to enter, sort and search for information for business purposes using a realistic business database provided by the centre.
If students select ICT at GCSE in Year 10 they will have the opportunity to take further courses in: Creating Animation for the World Wide Web; Creating Multimedia Products; Creating Computer Graphics; Creating Computer Sound and Creating Video.
