Maths Key Stage 3

At Key Stage 3 i.e. Years 7, 8 and 9 students develop a range of skills for calculating including mental methods, 'pencil and paper' technique and using calculators and computers.  The course is arranged in termly units. 

 Year 7:-

Term 1: using letters in algebra; the four operations +, x, -, /; integers; areas and perimeters; equivalent fractions; calculating simple percentages; simple probability;simple angle theory.

Term 2: converting metric units; co-ordinates and line graphs; constructing angles and triangles; representing data; simple surveys; percentages; decimals; fractions; making expressions in algebra.

Term 3: revise number skills; simple linear expressions; plotting graphs; ratios; plans and elevations; constructing frequency diagrams.

Year 8:-

Term 1: +, -, x, /; integers; index notation; angle theory with parallel lines; construction with compasses; simple probability; percentage increase/decrease; simple algebraic expressions; areas - triangles; trapezium and parallelograms; volumes.

Term 2: equations of straight lines; x, /, +, -; decimals; enlargement; substitution into formulae; simple surveys.

Term 3: revise number skills; simplify linear expressions; plotting graphs; ratios; plans and elevations; constructing frequency diagrams.

Year 9:-

Term 1: Sequences and their rules; +, -, x, /; decimals; solving linear equations; angle theory and parallel lines; collecting and interpreting data.

Term 2: Areas, perimeter including circles; working with indices; linear equations; probability transformations.

Term 3: Using formulaes; ratio and proportion; revision of number skills; length; areas; volumes of prism; Pythagoras' Theorem.
