AS Level
The course is divided into 50% coursework and 50% exam, at both AS and A2.
The exam consists of two parts. The unseen textual analysis and a case study essay question which this year is James Bond.
In preperation for the exam, students gain the skills to analyse Media texts using the four key concepts, Media Language, Institution, Audience and Representation across the three Media platforms:
The case study - student's study a variety of case study texts and analyse them in terms of how they operate across Media platforms and how they engage and target their audience.
For the coursework students have a choice of three briefs for which they produce a folder which includes research, pre-production tasks and two Media texts.

A2 LEVEL
The exam consists of two parts, a comparative unseen textual analysis and a choice of case study, essay questions on either Representation or New Media.
The paper requires a more in depth analysis of Media theory and wider social, economic and historical context than the AS Level.
The coursework is an independent study of a Media text/issue/debate of your choice consisting of a 2000 word research project and a linked production piece. This requires the student to produce a critical investigation utilising their identified skills of research analysis and organisation.
