Assessment in Media Studies is through a coursework unit and an exam unit each year.  Full Exam Specification Here

EXAMS

Unit 1  - Investigating Media  - a 2 hour exam taken in June of Year 12

Unit 3  - Media Critical Perspectives - a 2 hour exam taken in June of Year 13

COURSEWORK

Unit 2  - Two linked production pieces and evaluation in Year 12

Unit 4  - Media Research and Production (Practical coursework and written investigation) in Year 13

Introduction to contemporary media concepts and media platforms

Concepts: Media forms, media representations, media institutions, audiences

Platforms: Broadcasting, Digital Web based Media, Print

 Coursework

Two practical, linked course works with key concept evaluation.

Representations, media effects, reality tv, news values, moral panics, Post 9/11 and media, regulation and censorship, changing technologies

Progression

At A2 in 2007 there was an 100% A-C pass rate.  Candidates' independent studies received praise from the moderator on their critical autonomy, which is a whole school focus. All pupils achieved their TMG or above. This reflected the support structure of the sixth form and the positive working relationships between students and staff. 

The AS results were very positive and a healthy start to those students going on to A2.  There was a 100% A-D pass . At the top end it was pleasing to see 6 students achieving an A grade at this juncture.
