Music Extra Curricular

Kingsmead Music Department is extremely proud of its rich extra-curricular life.

Students have the opportunity to develop as musicians through the extended curriculum and groups provide exciting performance opportunities, chances from group work and time for social interaction.  A-Level students are encouraged to both participate in ensembles and tutor groups made up of younger students, passing on their experience and knowledge.  Students can explore a wide range of musical styles through the extended curriculum and this is reflected in our concerts.

Already this year we have performed

December 2011 - Winter Concert

On Thursday 15th December, kingsmead Muisc Dept presented its Winter Concert, our first event of the year.  This concert featured performers from all years with solo performances as well as items performed by Kingsmead's various extra-curricular groups including the kingsmead School orchestra and Nebula giving them the opportunity to share their work with an audience of family, freinds and staff.

The concert, which featured music ranging from Muse and Chuck Berry to traditional Christmas carols (in the Bleak Midwinter)  concluded with an audience singalong as we joined together: all performers with the audience to perform 'Hark the heralds Angels Sing' for a glorious finale.

well done to all the performers involved-we look forward to the Spring Concert 'Best of british' (in honour of London Olympics).

KS4 CHAMBER CONCERT – 26/1/12

On Thursday 26th January 2012, Kingsmead Music Dept celebrated their first concert of 2012 with Yr 10 and 11 students in the KS4 Chamber Concert. The programme was extremely diverse as it featured everything from  a Xylophone performance to rock guitar pieces: everything from rap to jazz, to classical guitar music. It was especially exciting to hear student compositions from three students. Well done to all the students involved- we look forward to your future performances!

We also enjoy taking our musical activities into the wider community (some events are described in the "specialist news" section of this website)and this includes our participation in 'Hairspray- The School Musical' which was performed at the Lyric Theatre and televised on SKY1.

Students were given the opportuntiy to showcase GCSE and 'A' Level coursework in formal concerts and both evenings were a great success.  The concerts covered everthing from R&B ('Millionaire') to jazz ('Smoke Gets in Your Eyes') to musical numbers ('Don't Rain on my Parade') to classical works (Bach 'Preludes and Fugues')  We look forward to seeing the students re-produce these excellent performances in their coursework portfolios.
