On Friday 13th February, 100 Year 9 students visited EXPLORING DIVERSE LONDON, an exhibition at the Museum of London in Docklands.
The visit and workshops complement the Citizenship programme for Year 9 students who participated in interactive drama performances with characters based on key historical Black African/Caribbean and White English abolitionist figures and a Bollywood Dance Workshop. The purpose of the visit was to boost students' awareness of the need for racial tolerance in society.
Mr Dow (Head of Year) spoke of the students' exemplary conduct and commented, "Students have done us proud! I have never seen such quickly coordinated Bollywood dance moves put together by Year 9 boys and girls. The Drama workshops were absolutely brilliant and the standards of our own Drama department were sung very highly by the museum's teachers who commented “Students were very switched on and were familiar with the disciplines required.""
Mr Dow added, "the theme of racism and the need for thorough cultural appreciation were well covered and Rahmel Lee impressed us all with his impromptu dance moves which he did in front of the entire group".
Mr Dow has plans to develop working links with the co-ordinators. Watch this space!
