The event for all prospective sixth form students will be on Wednesday 2nd December, 2009 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm and the Prospectus for 2010-2011 can be downloaded here.
The Sixth Form Open Evening is an opportunity for students and parents to gain an insight into the courses on offer at both Intermediate and Advanced Level. There will be a display of student’s work both practical (such as videos made by students following Media Studies; dance and music performances by students) and theoretical folder work. Current Year 12 and Year 13 students will be on hand to answer questions on the transition from Year 11 into the 6th Form.
Staff
Learning Directors of Department and subject teachers who deliver the courses will be available to answer questions about syllabus contents, expectations of examination boards and methods and style of teaching employed.
Progression Pathways
The majority of students who complete an A Level programme progress to University – last year 94% followed this progression pathway – to this end we offer a great deal of support to students in term of information on Universities and the application process and the financial provision that is available. There will be a display on “How to apply to University successfully” as well as information on Kingsmead Alumni.
Ethos and Expectations
In order to give Parents and Students the opportunity to ask questions with regard to overall ethos and expectations of the 6th Form, the Head Teacher, members of Senior Leadership Team and the Learning Director of Sixth Form will give a talk in the theatre, with a Q&A session.
Application Process
Following on from the Open Evening, students will complete an application form to indicate their progression intentions; this will be followed by an interview with a member of the 6th Form team to discuss appropriate courses - taking into consideration interest, skills and prior attainment – this will take place in the Spring term.
Application Process for Non Kingsmead Students
We welcome applications for our 6th form from non Kingsmead students. You can download an application form here
Induction
During the summer term students who have secured a place in our 6th Form will have the opportunity to enjoy 2 induction days, to taste courses and gain further insight into our ways of working – so that informed choices can be made which will ensure a successful transition to the Sixth Form and beyond.
