As part of our Induction to the Sixth Form we took our New Year 12 intake to Grosvenor Hall, a Kingswood Activity Centre in Kent on the 2nd of September where they were put through their paces. This motivational start to the year shook off the cobwebs of summer and ensured they were ready and raring to go face all the challenges that lie ahead of them in their further Sixth Form studies.
Students took part enthusiastically in activities which tested their teamwork, endurance and bravery. Working in small groups they helped integrate current Kingsmead pupils with newcomers from other schools and aid form group bonding.
Activities were varied so everyone had a chance to shine. These included 3G Swing, Rock climbing, Fencing, Archery and a group challenge. The group challenge especially ensured that every member of the group could not succeed without the help of their team mates, something that will stand them in good stead for their year ahead.
Students learned new skills, made new friends and had a great time at Kingswood. It was also a fantastic opportunity for their new form tutors and year team to get to know them and see their strengths and start encouraging them from the very start in the way that they will be encouraged in everything they do in Sixth Form.
A great day was had by all. Comments from pupils include:
“Everyone was encouraging” “I can support others”
“Challenges or tasks which appear “impossible” are “possible”
“Strengths lie in helping others”
“Nothing is impossible; just give it a try, so aim higher in your studies because nothing is impossible”
“When I put my mind to anything, I WILL complete it”
