For two nights the Kingsmead Theatre Company gave a poignant performance of 'Hard to Swallow' by Mark Wheeler to an audience filled theatre.
The play follows the true life experiences of a girl called Catherine, played convincingly by Lauren Leatherbarrow, and her family who have to get to grips with the impact that her anorexia has on their life. The performance was sensitively handled and raised awareness of this sad condition.
The cast were made up of many Year 10 students-Colette West, Shaquille John, Lauren Leatherbarrow, Billy Jean Degnan, Shanice Benjamin, Vikki Mennel, Samantha Russell, Danielle Reid, and Steven Smith. An impressive Year 8 student- Molly Tello- also stepped up to the challenge with a leading role of Catherine's mother. Backstage, Alex Miller helped to provide lighting and sound and projected images to help build an atmosphere that showed the audiences the reality of anorexia and how it can ravage the human body.
Well done to all involved, and special thanks to Ms Shann and Ms Edsall for directing the show.
If this show is anything to go by, make sure you don't miss out on the next KTC performance!
