The annual Performing and Visual Arts Day at Kingsmead was made all the more exciting this year by a special preview visit of an Olympic Torch.

As part of their sponsorship of the Olympic Games, Lloyds TSB in keeping with their social responsibility policy have allowed a  few schools to have the privilege of a visit by a genuine (if un-lit!) Torch and thanks to Ms Pascali, Friday 13th July was Kingsmead's lucky day.

It was fitting that as Year 7, 8 and 9 students enjoyed a veritable cultural Olympiad of artistic and sporting workshops that the Torch toured the school, accompanied by a team of 6th formers who informed students about the history of the Olympics and facts about the Torch.  Students and staff were thrilled to see it close-up and be part of this historic event for our country.  They all excitedly gathered together to be photographed with it, to shouts of 'London!' The vision for the London Olympic Games is to combine sport, education and culture and what better example than our Performing and Visual Arts Day!
