The History Department aims to promote historical awareness and a passion for learning about the past, as well as equipping students with a range of intellectual skills. Students learn about the past in a variety of ways, studying a mix of British and World history, and they are encouraged to use that knowledge to help them make sense of the present.
Through History, students also develop the ability to organise information, argue a case, think critically and analyse source material, all of which are transferable skills which will benefit students in their study of other subjects and later in the world of work. They will develop their knowledge of key historical concepts including causation, change and continuity, similarity and difference, interpretation and historical significance, using a range of sources including contemporary footage, film, photos, artefacts, cartoons and paintings.
