Our Year 9 student Kiera, has been a volunteer with DAZU Enfield for the past two years.
DAZU is a registered charity, providing a range of recreational and educational activities for children and young people of all ages and all abilities.
They aim to provide a supportive environment for children who are disabled or who have learning difficulties.
Kiera currently volunteers once a week, helping young people, talking with them about their problems and feelings. She is a positive role model who encourages them to overcome difficulties and to move on with their life. She enjoys working with young children who use DAZU and states "We all need to take into consideration, that people are different and some illnesses may not be obvious, and we all need to be supportive."
10th October was World Mental Health Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness of mental health issues. Kiera supported this event which took place in the Millfield Theatre Edmonton, where she helped to raise the charity's awareness to children from local primary schools.
The day was full of activities and children had an opportunity to participate in arts and crafts, drama, mindfulness, outside activities and counselling. Kiera looked after a group of young children assigned to her throughout the day.
