On Tuesday 27th March, the English Department were delighted to welcome ‘Keeper of the Lost Realms’ trilogy writer, Marcus Alexander, in to school to meet and work with our students.
All students from Years 7 and 8 were fortunate enough to listen to a talk from Marcus in which he inspired us all by his enthusiasm and zest for life; he talked openly about his many life experiences – from countries he has visited, food he has tasted and extreme sports in which he has participated. All of which was followed by some very impressive black flips!
Alongside this, Marcus also worked with some students on the process of writing and how to develop their ideas – he stressed the importance of being free with your ideas and how ‘anything goes’ when it comes to creative writing!
Later in the day, Marcus signed some Keeper of the Lost Realms posters and bookmarks for the students and one lucky year 8 student, Iman got to record a short video with Marcus about her favourite author, Malorie Blackman. Marcus later Tweated this and tagged Malorie who kindly replied with a personal mention to Iman.
Marcus is a very interesting man – which is clearly evident in his writing. He believes that the many opportunities he has been lucky enough to be part of, along with a thirst for reading, have both been integral in feeding his imagination when creating his wonderful books.
I am sure we would all like the encourage our students to do the same and relish the many opportunities that are offered to them in life.
And read lots, of course!
